Welcome to my website. My name is Laura Charlton and I am a psychodynamic counsellor and a registered member of the BACP with many years’ experience working in various settings including the NHS, charities, low-cost clinics and in secondary and primary schools. My private practice is in Lewes, East Sussex, where I work with individual adults, young people and children. I also work with children and parents together. I offer brief and longer-term counselling on a weekly basis. I also offer twice-weekly sessions for more in-depth work.
Counselling provides therapeutic support with a wide range of life events and experiences that may be impacting on us and various aspects of our lives. It can also offer the opportunity for us to deepen our understanding and awareness of ourselves and our lives, and ultimately lead to greater health and well-being.
Some people start counselling knowing exactly what they need support with, for example a significant life event, decision or change; a bereavement; the breakdown of a relationship; the experience of living with ill health, addiction, or the impact of past experiences including trauma and loss. Others start counselling because they are aware of repeating unhealthy patterns, feel stuck in their life, and are unhappy, depressed or anxious, but unsure why and unsure how to negotiate their way through. I offer clients a safe, confidential and positive space in which to reflect, explore and try to make sense of all they may be struggling with, at a pace and depth that feels comfortable for them.
My practice room is located in central Lewes, 5 minutes walk from the train station and bus routes and 2 minutes from a public car park.
